Lord Monckton with Greenpeace demonstrator

Tuesday, December 15, 2009

It is so interesting how many of these "environmentalists" simply spew the talking points from organizations like Greenpeace and NEVER question the source of the data or the interpretation of the data. I love how she says "Ive seen it. The glaciers were larger 20 years ago in Norway." As if her sample of one clearly gives us a full ppicture of all climate change on Earth.

The Palin Effect

Saw a recent bumper sticker that read "Palin in 2012". This brought to mind many questions I have about a Sarah Palin for President campaign. Should the Republicans run Palin in 2012 against Obama? Will Palin run on the GOP ticket or will she run on a third party ticket (Tea Partiers)?

If Palin runs on an anti-Obama platform ,she is destined to lose. The media, for the most part, despises Sarah Palin. She will have to have a solid set of principles and beliefs to espouse during the campaign. This brings up the question what does Sarah Palin believe in? I don't know.

I love Palin. She has so many qualities that are desireable in a candidate. However, I do not know what she would do as President. It is unclear what her agenda would be. She cannot simply oppose the policies of the Democrats and win. She has to be seen as "for" something.

In the past, Palin has run on platforms to fight corruption and fiscal responsibility. Running against corruption in Washingon for a presidential candidate would be like a chef running against the use of stoves in a kitchen. It is not a winning platform by an means. Fiscal repsonsibility and rolling back the massive spending orgy the Democrats have gone on this year is something people could get behind. Couple that idea with lowering taxes, ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and energy alternatives and Palin could probably get support from a majority of Americans.

Palin is an incredibly intriguing candidate but we do not really know what she will do as president. She seems to be positioning herself for a run of some sort given her actions over the past several months. I would love to support her but am waiting to see the real Sarah Palin before doing so.

Where to try the terrorist suspects

Sunday, November 22, 2009

I have a "modest" proposal for the terrorist trials of the detainees held at Guantanamo Bay. There are many security issues with bringing these people to New York City. The issue of the wounds of 9/11 are still lingering in the minds of many New Yorkers as well. So why not take them to some other venue like say...a warship??

I dont know if its legal or not but it would solve the security problem .It would also take a lot of presure off the New York police department. The trial could be shown by cameras on the ship and beamed back to shore. The exact location of the ship could be kept a secret as well during the trial. Its highly unlikely anyone would attack say a battleship.

Thoughts??

Back in the saddle...

Wednesday, November 18, 2009

Sorry I have been away for a couple of weeks!! Work has been crazy and we all know how that goes. So much has gone on recently in the world of politics that its hard to know where to begin.

First off the bow heard around the world.

Unlike many of my conserative brethren, I do not see the big deal about Obama bowing to another foreign leader. In Japan, the bow has many meanings. It's not as if he is suggesting the emperor of Japan has authority over him. This is much ado about nothing.

Sarah Palin and the now infamous Newsweek cover

Sarah Palin is what most people would consider an attractive woman. She looks as good if not better in this picture than most women in America. None of that is a good reason to run this picture on the cover of a supposed "news" magazine like Newsweek.

Have we seen such pictures of Obama, Biden, Hillary Clinton? No we have not. Perhaps thats because Newsweek was attempting to portray Palin as a sex symbol which would help marginalize her as a serious policy advocate and potential candidate for the GOP in the future.

Newsweek has responded saying they chose an image that "conveys a gender neutral standard." RIGHT!! I find it humorous that in an article about Sarah Palin, Newsweek writer Evan Thomas spends two paragraphs denigrating Palin and then the next six paragraphs do not mention her at all. Thomas uses the rest of the article discussing the strategies of Eisenhower and Reagan as well as time spent examining Obama's attempts at bipartisanship. Even in an article about Sarah Palin, Newsweek cannot bring itself to give her much attention.

Palin will come out the winner from all of this. The incessant attacks by some in the liberal media have started to generate some sympathy for Palin. Piling on is a time honored tradition in American politics but eventually most people will say enough is enough!

What we should take away from the Ft Hood shootings

Friday, November 6, 2009

The tragic events at Ft Hood will stick in our collective consciousness for some time. Its hard to make sense of the reasons for such a terrible tragedy. Even harder to discern is what we should learn from the shootings. One immediate lesson jumps out at us right away. We need to do a better job of screening our military personnel especially in terms of psychological evaluations.

Some military leaders and former soldiers such as Allen West (R-Fla) have suggested that the enemy is infiltrating our ranks. This is unquestionably true on some level. The question is what to do about it?

Its unreasonable to think we can keep everyone who is from the Middle East out of the military and probably unConstitutional as well. Still, since many of the people in that part of the world don't like us very much, we should regard them with a wary eye especially when they seek to become part of the military or law enforcement.

Requiring ALL soldiers to undergo psychological evaluations before upcoming deployments would be a good start. It's not clear whether doing these tests would have filtered out Hasan or not but at least we would have known for sure the strength of his protests against his upcoming deployment. There were signs at least 6 months ago of his unrest so perhaps we could have prevented this tragedy.

In any case, it will never be possible to stop the sort of domestic terrorism Hasan perpetrated at Ft Hood in the future entirely. People slip through the cracks and we cannot catch all of them. However, as we have seen time and again, the price of liberty is sometimes at odds with personal privacy and we must be ready to make that sacrifice if we are to make our country safer for all of us.

AFL-CIO leader says no new jobs until 2012

So now the head of the AFLCIO says it will be be 2012 before we start seeing job growth. When do the liberals run out of lies and deceptions regarding the economy? Unemployment finally went over 10% which many liberals said would not happen and now the leader of one of the most influential labor unions in the country says no jobs in 2010 or 2011 are coming.

Its times like this I wish we had a recall for the President of the United States.

What we can learn from the election

Wednesday, November 4, 2009

The main message that we conservatives can take away from last night is that the liberal "base" only shows up when Obama is on the ballot. Once all the numbers are in, its likely that turnout was low among Democrats. These same people came out in droves last year for Obama but in an off year election where Obama is not on the ballot, they are nowhere to be found.

Independents voted according to the issues and the candidates and since no one was running against George Bu- err John McCain this time, the election for them was about who would do the best job. Clearly they thought it was the GOP.

Liberals today are making a big deal about the NY-23 congressional race but lets put it in perspective. Its one district which in the big picture, is not all that important. When Scozzafava gave her endorsement to the Democratic nominee (not surprising since she is practically a Democrat herself) it threw enough votes his way for the win. Also as Michelle Malkin points out, Hoffman came from NOWHERE to almost winning the election. That should SCARE liberals not make them happy.

The GOP took a blue state (NJ) and took back a red state (VA). Obama spent a lot of time in both states stumping for both Democratic candidates. This tells us the annointed one is not nearly as powerful as he thinks (his ego must be ready to commit suicide today). 2010 is looking brighter everyday now.

Election night: 2009

What did the the election of two GOP governors in New Jersey and Virginia mean for the midterm elections in 2010? Plenty!!

In both races, the Republican nominees ran as fiscal conservatives and hammered their Democratic opponents over their support for Obama's all talk, no result agenda. Jobs , transportation and taxes were huge issues for voters in both states. Transportation does not necessarily transfer well to the national stage but taxes and jobs do. The GOP would be wise to model their efforts to win back the House and Senate on these issues.

Its a simple formula really. Tie the Democrats to Obama and his ideas that have produced record unemployment, a quadrupling of the deficit, a massive expansion of government and NO RESULTS!! The GOP doesnt even have to come up with that many answers itself just show how the "other" guy is making it worse.

The Blue Dog Democrats in the House have to be shaking in their boots. For the first time in many months, I feel more confident that Cap and Tax as well as government run healthcare might actually fail. With Sen Reid pushing the vote on health care to next year, the Democrats are obviously seeing the writing on the wall. Now its time for CYA mode.

Look for the Democratic membership in the House and Senate to start distancing itself from Obama. They wont actively oppose him but they will want no part of being seen as his lapdogs either. I predict much crying and whining from White House officials over the next 12 months about their inability to get the House and Senate to go along with their agenda.

Could that possibly be light at the end of the tunnel??

FOX is most ideological network...SO WHAT!!!

Friday, October 30, 2009

A recent Pew Center survey found that more people think Fox is ideological than the other news networks. Who cares?? Look closely at this chart. Do you notice anything about ALL the other networks? None of them are seen as particularly conservative in nature however they all have a significant dash of liberalism. This means while they are all touting the virtues of Obama and the Democrats, Fox is the lone voice daring to speak the truth. That is the real takeaway from these numbers.
Its somewhat amusing that CNN, a so called middle of the road network, is seen as more liberal than MSNBC. Thats pretty funny. Also, who are these people that think MSNBC is mostly conservative and what are their IQs? Do they understand what the word "conservative" means?

New poll shows America thinks Obama sucks...

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

A new WSJ/CBS news poll says a majority of Americans now think the country is on the wrong track. 52% say Obama is leading us to the not-so promising land. This is the first time in his presidency that this number has been over 50%.

This poll tells us that America may finally be waking up the destruction this guy and his left wing loons in Congress are doing to the economy and our future as a country. Its a good sign for Republicans even though their number in Congress are not great either. If the economy continues to sputter, hopefully the GOP can make some inroads in the House and Senate in 2010.
